HaulProof

Frequently asked questions

What is HaulProof?

HaulProof is a carrier-vetting service for freight brokers, shippers and 3PLs working with Canadian and cross-border carriers. It puts the US FMCSA record and the provincial records (NSC, Ontario CVOR, Quebec CTQ, Manitoba C-SNAP, Alberta profiles) into one carrier profile with a risk tier, the reasons behind it, and alerts when something changes. It is a product of A3E Ecosystem Inc. and works in English and Canadian French.

Which Canadian records does HaulProof include?

Ontario: the Ministry of Transportation's public lists of Excellent and of Unsatisfactory or Cancelled carriers, read every night, and CVOR abstracts the carrier uploads with its consent. Quebec: the Commission des transports' public lists of Unsatisfactory and Conditional carriers, synced daily. British Columbia: the public NSC bulletins, read monthly. Manitoba: the public Carrier Snapshot (C-SNAP), looked up on demand. Alberta and other provinces: NSC profiles uploaded by the carrier with its consent.

What do the risk tiers mean?

Every carrier gets one of four tiers, Low, Average, Medium or High, with the reasons behind it. Some findings force High whatever the score, such as an inactive USDOT, an active out-of-service order, no active operating authority, or a provincial NSC rating of Unsatisfactory or Conditional. When a carrier has both US and provincial records, the tier shown is the worst of them. Tiers are recalculated daily after the data refresh.

How accurate is the risk tier?

We rebuilt the tier for 379,944 US for-hire carriers as of May 1, 2025, using only data dated before that day, and followed them for 12 months. Carriers rated High had their operating authority revoked 67.4% of the time, against 9.1% for carriers rated Low (7.4 times as often). The tier ranks risk to show where to look harder; it is not a guarantee.

Can I check a carrier for free?

Yes. The carrier lookup searches any US or Canadian carrier by name or number, free. The free carrier list check takes a pasted or uploaded list of up to 2,000 carriers, with no account, and shows in seconds how many are in each tier and the 5 to look at first.

How does the Chrome extension work?

The HaulProof Carrier Check extension shows a coloured risk tier next to USDOT, MC, CVOR and NSC numbers on load board pages such as DAT and Truckstop. Hover a tier for the carrier and its main reason; click it for the full profile. You can also select a number anywhere, right-click and choose "Check with HaulProof". It works with a HaulProof account, including the 14-day free trial.

What alerts do I get, and where?

For carriers on your watchlists, HaulProof alerts you when operating authority is revoked or restored, insurance is cancelled or dropped, a carrier is placed out of service, a new crash or a safety rating change is recorded, the risk tier goes up or down, company details change, or a provincial record shows an Unsatisfactory rating or a cancelled or suspended status. Alerts go by email, Slack, Microsoft Teams or a signed webhook. Data refreshes daily and alerts appear within minutes of the refresh.

Can I import my existing carrier list?

Yes. On the Watchlists page, "Import a carrier list" takes your list as it is: Excel, CSV, Word, PDF or text, or an export from CarrierOk, Highway, Carrier411 or your TMS. HaulProof finds the USDOT, MC or CVOR numbers. A list of carrier names works too: a name is added only when it matches exactly one active carrier. If a list does not load, email support@haulproof.ca and we will import it for you.

Is there an API?

Yes. The REST API (OpenAPI 3.1) gives 300 live lookups a month free, with no card. Paid API plans are C$99 for 15,000, C$199 for 75,000, C$499 for 300,000 lookups a month. Over 300,000 a month is a custom contract at the same per-lookup price or lower.

Developers

Where is the data hosted, and how is it protected?

The website runs on Cloudflare's network and the database is hosted in Canada (Supabase, Montréal). Passwords are stored only as scrypt hashes, sessions and API keys are stored hashed, cloud-export credentials are encrypted, and backups run nightly with weekly restore tests. HaulProof follows PIPEDA and Quebec's Law 25.

Security

What if a carrier's tier looks wrong?

Use "This tier is wrong?" on the carrier's profile. A person reviews every correction, and broker requests are answered within 1 business day. Errors in a government record (FMCSA, a provincial ministry or the CTQ) must be corrected by that agency; HaulProof updates at the next refresh.

Who bills me, and can I cancel?

A3E Ecosystem Inc., the company behind HaulProof, issues the invoices; payments are processed by Stripe. You can cancel any time from the Billing page, and access continues to the end of the paid period.
