Checking a Quebec carrier: CTQ, NIR and NEQ

Updated 2026-10-25

Quebec carriers register with the Commission des transports du Québec (CTQ). The CTQ publishes who has an Unsatisfactory or Conditional rating, which makes Quebec one of the easiest provinces to screen.

The two numbers to ask for

The NIR is the carrier's CTQ registry number, written like R-123456-7. The NEQ is its Quebec enterprise number from the Registraire des entreprises. Matching both to the legal name confirms you have the right company.

The CTQ public lists

The CTQ lists carriers rated Unsatisfactory, carriers rated Conditional (with or without the right to operate), and partners or directors rated Unsatisfactory. A director on that list who turns up at a new carrier is a classic chameleon sign.

How HaulProof uses them

HaulProof syncs the CTQ lists daily. An Unsatisfactory or Conditional rating puts the carrier in the High tier, and you get an alert the same day a carrier you monitor is added to a list.

General information, not legal advice. Confirm current requirements with the province concerned.
